Amazon MGM Studios has rolled up its sleeves for an exciting project. The company has begun work on a series adaptation based on the 1982 horror film Poltergeist. According to emerging details, two veteran television producers, Kalinda Vazquez and Robbie Thompson, have signed on for the series.
The project was first announced last October. Steven Spielberg, who co-wrote the original film directed by Tobe Hooper, plans to produce the project with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey through Amblin TV.
Poltergeist is being made into a series with an experienced cast
Newcomer Kalinda Vazquez began her career as a writer and story editor on seasons 3 and 4 of Prison Break. She then served as story editor and executive writer on the action series Human Target. Most recently, Vazquez wrote two episodes of the fourth season of AMC’s zombie drama Fear the Walking Dead, an episode of Star Trek Discovery, and the five-episode Marvel Comics series America Chavez: Made In the USA.
Robbie Thompson came to prominence in 2009 with the science fiction series Ark. He later served as executive story editor on The CW’s Supernatural. Thompson wrote numerous episodes of the show’s eighth through eleventh seasons (between 2012 and 2016), including the 200th episode “Fan Fiction”, a fan favorite.
In 1982, the legendary horror film Poltergeist grossed over $120 million on a budget of only $10 million after a troubled production. In 2015, a remake starring Sam Rockwell, Poltergeist: Poltergeist: Evil Spirit, starring Sam Rockwell. Now Amazon is preparing to bring us this unforgettable movie with a strong team with a series adaptation.
